Another innovation from Dwyer Instrument, Inc. is the distinctive electric switch design found in the Series 1640. Similar to the Series 1630 switches is the Dwyer® Series 1640 Differential Pressure Switch. Nevertheless, the Series 1640 is a null switch because it has a single pole, double throw floating contact switch (not snap acting). The floating contact is moved by the diaphragm in reaction to pressure variations, causing switching activity at two predetermined positions and no switching action in between. When the growing pressure differential reaches the predetermined level, the "high" circuit will be closed. When the lowering pressure differential reaches the predetermined threshold, the "low" circuit will be closed. One common application for motorized dampers is to be able to move them to a predefined maximum when the static pressure in a duct system exceeds it, and to a predetermined minimum when the static pressure drops. In a similar manner, the Series 1640 switch may regulate air velocity and keep the amount of air in a supply duct constant by utilizing a Pitot tube sensing element. The Part Number is 1640-1
